SINGAPORE — Singapore’s port industry posted record-breaking performance in 2025, with standout growth in vessel arrivals, container throughput and marine fuel sales, according to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Data released on Tuesday (13 Jan) show that the Port of Singapore handled a record 3.22 billion gross tonnage of vessel arrivals, up 3.5 per cent compared with 2024. Meanwhile, container throughput rose 8.6 per cent to reach 44.66 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) — marking its highest annual figure yet.

The port’s role as a global bunkering hub was also underscored. Marine fuel sales climbed to 56.77 million tonnes in 2025, a 3.4 per cent increase over the previous year. Of note, the use of alternative marine fuels surged, rising to 1.95 million tonnes from 1.35 million tonnes in 2024.

Senior Minister of State for Law and Transport Murali Pillai commented at a Singapore Maritime Foundation event that the strong figures highlight Singapore’s enduring role as a preferred port of call and key node in global trade. He described the performance as testament to the collaborative efforts of government, industry partners, unions and maritime workers.

The city-state also earned a series of international accolades last year, including being named the world’s leading container port in the inaugural Leading Container Ports of the World report and securing top honours at the 2025 Asian Freight, Logistics and Supply Chain Awards. Singapore also retained its position atop the Xinhua-Baltic International Shipping Centre Development Index.

Looking ahead, the MPA has acknowledged ongoing uncertainties from geopolitical tensions and supply chain shifts, but remains confident that Singapore’s maritime sector will continue to demonstrate resilience and adaptability
