Plan Your Trip — Singapore Travel Essentials
Local Transport
Getting around Singapore is straightforward thanks to its safe, efficient and well-connected transportation network. The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and public buses link almost every part of the island, with trains operating daily from approximately 6 a.m. to midnight. Cash fares for trains and buses start from about S$1.40 for single rides, and tickets can be purchased at station vending machines.
For visitors staying multiple days, an EZ-link card offers convenience and savings — usable on both trains and buses with fares from around 77 cents. Cards are available at selected MRT stations, bus interchanges, and 7-Eleven outlets.
Another option is the Singapore Tourist Pass, which provides unlimited rides on public transport (including MRT, LRT and basic bus services) for 1-, 2- or 3-day durations. This pass can help save both time and money for travellers covering many sights in a short period.
Taxis and Ride Apps
Taxis are abundant and can be flagged down on the street, found at designated stands, or booked via apps. Metered fares typically start at around S$3, with additional charges possible during peak times or late night. Limousine services operate at flat rates through authorised counters or phone bookings.
Visitor Essentials
The guide also highlights other key travel basics such as visa requirements, currency, weather and local etiquette. For example, Singapore uses the Singapore dollar (SGD), and English is widely spoken as the primary language. Tap water is safe to drink, and weather tends to be hot and humid year-round — so light clothing and rain-ready gear are advisable.
Planning ahead using these resources ensures a smoother, more enjoyable stay and helps visitors make the most of what Singapore has to offer.
